(Videos may have inappropriate language.)
I haven't watched any of these videos in several months so if any of my points are on the dot with the video it is not intentional, but I do know that I agreed with all the points of the video way back when I did watch the videos.
Now that I'm done with my shout-out/disclaimer lets get on with the rant.
The dreaded school dress code. I am on two opposite sides of the spectrum on the school dress code. I believe dress codes should either, A:) follow the four B's (No boobs, butt, back or belly) or B:) have a uniform. There should be no in betweens. And here's my reasoning why.
A.) The Four B's
A school is a public place. In public, you're allowed to wear pretty much whatever you want. As long as no genitalia is showing no one can really say anything. (They can judge you however much they want though.) Most places even have the No Shoes, No Shirt, No Service. So pretty much as long as you follow those guidelines you're good to go. (The signs never say anything about pants, but I feel like that one's a given) But why is this the only thing the signs say? Because Wal-mart is a public place. Also, we live in America and in America we have freedoms.
B.) Uniforms
I often hear the "school is to train you to be used to being in a workplace." That's why we have ID badges and the dress code. Okay, well most work places have uniforms. Especially the jobs that high school kids are going to have. So to get us more used to the work places we will be in, we should have uniforms.
If we have uniforms there also is no dress code violations. That will be extremely beneficial to learning as well since we will no longer have to be taken out of class for said violations.
Let me walk you through a dress code change. 99% of the time it's a female. 80% of the time it's a tall girl wearing shorts because it is impossible for tall girls to find shorts that are 5 inches above the knee or longer, without buying men's basketball shorts. The other 20% of the time it's a girl wearing a tank time because God forbid I, a female, show my shoulders, that every single person in the world has.
Now, a girl gets dress coded. She's clearly embarrassed for being called out. Then she loses valuable class time because you don't like her outfit or because it's too "distracting." Let me tell you shorts and tank tops are not distracting. The only time I'm distracted is because of the dress code. and here's how that conversation goes.
"Wow, do you see that outfit, that's cute."
"Yeah, but you know if one of us wore that we'd get dress coded."
"Yeah, that's so unfair. It's because she doesn't have a butt/boobs like me."
So you see the dress code then causes us to cut people down because of the dress code. Because without the dress code it would have just ended at the "that outfit is cute" sentence.
