In the song it explains he was a boy and he was punk. Ok. But then she later says: All of her friends stuck up their nose, because they had a problem with his baggy clothes."
Now correct me if I'm wrong, but punk kids don't wear baggy clothes, the usual attire is actually quite opposite and has been considered tight clothes for a long time now, as Ronnie Radke explains in many songs. Also, the song title presents an even bigger problem. Was he a skater boy, or was he punk? If he was a skater boy why would he wear baggy clothes and risk them getting caught in the wheels? Then it gives information that "she turns on TV, guess whos she sees: Skater boy rockin' up MTV" so we know he's been working on his musical career for a while now. (The only chronological timeline we get is that she was five years from now) but regardless, his musical talents were enough to get him a spot on MTV.
To me it seems that he was more of a musician if anything, rather that a skater. We don't actually even get any information about his skateboarding skills. Actually, we don't even know if it was skateboarding he did. He might have been a roller skater, or even an ice skater. We just don't know. There is not enough information involved to even call him a skater. The song leaves us with more questions than answers and it's quite annoying. She then says "Now I'm with skater boy" but it's almost impossible not to assume that would be after his MTV performance. Why does she still call him skater boy? Why isn't she praising his musical success that she does tell us about rather than this possibly made up skate success. It makes no sense.
With all this being said, This was a 10/10 fantastic song. I would listen to it again.
